LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 18, 2026) – Laketown Beach Park has taken a lot of that township board’s attention over the past year.
Last Wednesday, the five-member governing panel authorized Manager Stephanie Fox and her staff to go ahead and purchase a seven-tenths-of-an-acre parcel adjacent to that park. The land doesn’t have any shoreline to Lake Michigan, but does touch the north side of a parking lot at the end of 142nd Avenue.
Supervisor Steve Ringelberg echoed the sentiment of his colleagues in endorsing the $220,000 acquisition, as long as a Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant application for three quarters of that cost is approved by year’s end.
It would be the latest addition to the site, which would then total about nine and a half acres. Earlier this spring, the board approved a $210,000-plus contract with Holland-based Lakeshore Concepts to install adjustable aluminum stairs this coming fall at Laketown Beach, to replace 40-year-old-plus wooden stairs taken down last year due to decay and safety concerns. Further overall improvements to the park are being considered.
