HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 16, 2026) – It will be a spring to remember for an Ottawa County family, although it probably will be for an unpleasant reason.
On Friday, the county’s Department of Public Health announced that a fourth member of the unnamed household, at an undisclosed location, has come down with a case of measles. This comes after one person tested positive for this highly-contagious disease in late April, and two other family members were found to be stricken about 10 days later.
OCDPH officials say that the household had observed proper quarantine measures since the virus was first detected, which may have led to the other three cases, but was effective in preventing any further spread. The state has classified the matter as an outbreak for monitoring and reporting purposes, but if no further cases are identified, that designation should expire at month’s end.
Last June, a measles case was reported in Allegan County, but no other persons then had reportedly come down with the disease. As of this past Thursday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has reported 13 total cases so far across the state, with the majority coming in the southeast corridor.
