HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 14, 2026) – Perhaps the most important meeting of the year for the Holland City Council lasted about 90 minutes on Wednesday evening.
On an unanimous vote, the governing panel approved an overall $282.9 million municipal budget for Fiscal 2027. The spending plan includes General Fund expenditures of $37.8 million, $300,000 more than projected revenues, necessitating a dip into reserves in order to balance the books.
City Manager Keith Van Beek wasn’t too concerned about that beforehand, saying that a projected deficit in May usually turns out to be a surplus when the financial year ends next June 30th due to “prudent” handling of municipal finances.
Before a nearly vacant Council Chambers, and with no input from a required public hearing beforehand, Fourth Ward Council Member Kim Rowan and her colleagues didn’t take much time to endorse the financial blueprint that will take the Tulip City through June 30th of next year.
Council also approved the 2027 Strategic Plan and Business Plan, a framework document meant to define goals city leadership looks to deliver on over the next 12 months.
