LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 7, 2026) – It was a mixed bag of unemployment numbers along the Lakeshore and across the state in March.
That’s according to figures disclosed on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Based on data from the US Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, not seasonally-adjusted unemployment rates fell in eight of the state’s 18 major labor market areas, and in 43 of the state’s 83 counties.
Joblessness held steady in Ottawa County from February at 3.8 percent, while Allegan County slid two tenths of a percentage point to 4.2 percent. A year ago, those numbers were at 4.6 in Ottawa and 5.3 in Allegan.
State officials say that total employment and regional labor force levels are down over the month and year, although regional payroll jobs rose in March.
