ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 29, 2026) – A collective sigh of relief was taken by those living in, and helping those affected by, storms that ravaged parts of Allegan County when the track of strong winds on Monday evening veered away from them.
Two tornados struck the Otsego/Plainwell area on April 14th, necessitating the declaration of a State of Emergency by Governor Whitmer. While that directs funds from Lansing to municipalities for repairing infrastructure damage caused by the storm, efforts to help residents and businesses pick up the proverbial pieces are ongoing.
The Allegan County Community Foundation, along with the Heart of West Michigan United Way, are collecting funds to not only help those affected, but also those who are working on clean up efforts. The Allegan County Cares initiative has been activated for the past two weeks, according to the foundation’s Community Impact Manager Lauren Hunt-VanderPloeg.
