PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 27, 2026) – A continued law enforcement presence on Lake Macatawa will be formally assured on Monday afternoon.
The Park Township Fire Department has a 3 PM ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally unveil its new Marine Division Station at the site (2280 Ottawa Beach Rd.) where the US Coast Guard had a search-and-rescue operation since 1885 before decommissioning the facility four years ago. The township purchased the property for $1.4 million, and began renovations in February in order to accommodate not only two specially-equipped personal watercrafts and a rescue boat, but also give a base of operations for the Ottawa County Sheriff Eric DeBoer’s Marine Unit.
The state Department of Natural Resources marine patrol is also expected to utilize the facility. A public open house is slated for later this summer.
