SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 3, 2026) – It’s a scenario nobody wants to see or experience, but it’s one that needs to be addressed.
On Saturday, March 21st, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office will hold a full-day Church Safety Workshop, aimed at helping places of worship strengthen readiness and response planning. According to Undersheriff David Kok, the session will cover practical considerations for situations such as medical incidents, disruptive or violent visitors, severe weather, and more.
Church leaders, safety/security team members, and other decision makers are encouraged to attend. While the 8 AM-4 PM session at Harvest Church (225 E. Exchange St.) in Spring Lake is free, attendees must be 18 years of age or older, and registration is required through this link.
This Church Safety Workshop is somewhat modeled after the Sheriff’s Office “Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events” free class set for this coming Monday, March 9th, from 6-8 PM at the Main Conference Room of the county’s Fillmore Complex (12220 Fillmore St.) in West Olive. Registration is required through this link, with some space still available as of Tuesday morning.
