ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 4, 2026) – Applications for a popular event in Zeeland are now being taken.
From now through next Friday, February 13th, adult residents of the city, as well as customers of the Zeeland Board of Public Works, and those who work for a company within the city limits, can submit their name for consideration in the third annual Zeeland Citizens Academy. For a six-week period, from April 15th through May 20th, up to 15 participants will take tours at a variety of municipal locations, seeing first hand how government and the BPW utility works, with staffers on hand to discuss their responsibilities and answer any questions.
It not only leads to more understanding as to the workings of government, but also to more participation, according to Mayor Rick Van Dorp.
There is no cost to participate, and those chosen for the program on March 3rd are asked to attend at least five of the six sessions in order to receive a “graduation” certificate on June 1st. An online link for more information and to apply is here.
