OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 3, 2026) – The Lakeshore may be emerging from the deep freeze that ushered January out, but weather-related issues continue.
The biggest concern as temperatures warm up is all that snow melting into rivers and streams. Areas such as the Van Lopik neighborhood in Robinson Township, along the Grand River, has been known to be overrun when water goes over the river’s banks due to the thaw and ice jams.
Emily Grasch, Chief Deputy Ottawa County Water Resources Commissioner, points out some things that can be done right now to prevent flooding.
The Ottawa County Water Resources Office can be called at 616-994-4526, or contacted through the county’s website. Allegan County’s Drain Office is at 269-673-0440, and through the county’s website.
