ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 2, 2026) – The arctic cold that descended upon the Lakeshore last month will leave its calling card on area roads.
Although temperatures haven’t reached the 32-degree freezing mark yet, the sun that shone for much of this past weekend has led to potholes being formed on some areas of pavement, with more to come. Allegan County Road Commission Executive Director Craig Atwood says his crews are ready to make some repairs.
Both Atwood and Alex Doty of the Ottawa County Road Commission are looking into reports from Pueblo, Colorado about a new pothole repair machine that allows crews to make permanent road fixes during colder months. Officials there say the Python 5000 from Canadian-based SuperiorRoads Solutions replaces temporary cold mix repairs with a spray mix of a more durable material which can withstand snow, rain and plows.
