This evening, hear the Zeeland West at Zeeland East boys-girls doubleheader with Greg Chandler on WHTC Holland’s Cool FM, beginning at 5:10 PM, or the Saugatuck at Black River girls-boys twin bill on The Lakeshore’s 92 7 The Van, starting at 5:40 PM. Other such matchups include Holland at Forest Hills Eastern, Holland Christian at Unity Christian, Hamilton at Spring Lake, and Allegan at Fennville. Also on the slate, West Ottawa’s teams are on the road, with the boys at Muskegon, and the girls at Reeths-Puffer.

Grand Valley State swept a hard-fought doubleheader from visiting Wayne State in Allendale last night. Lexi Plitzuweit had 21 points, but the Lakers needed a layup from Paige VanStee with 17 seconds left to win the women’s opener, 81-80. David Wilkerson came off of the bench to tally 17 points as the men topped the visiting Warriors in the nightcap, 81-72. GVSU entertains the men and women of Purdue Northwest at the Fieldhouse Arena tomorrow afternoon.
In state major-college basketball last night, Michigan State got past Northwestern, 76-66. This evening, Wright State is at Detroit Mercy, and Cleveland State is at Oakland.

Patrick Kane scored twice to reach the 500-goal plateau for his career, as the Red Wings beat the visiting Vancouver Canucks at Little Caesars Arena last night, 5-1. Detroit skates in Montreal against the Canadiens tomorrow evening, with broadcast time at 6:45 PM on WHTC Holland’s Cool FM.
The Blackhawks entertain the Washington Capitals at the United Center in Chicago tonight.

The Bulls’ game against the visiting Miami Heat was called off last night due to persistent moisture on the court, stemming from warm, damp conditions that affected the ice for hockey games underneath that surface. No date for when the contest would be made up was immediately announced. Chicago hosts the Dallas Mavericks at the United Center tomorrow evening.
