LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 23, 2025) – A Lakeshore public transportation entity is getting some funding from Lansing to bolster its vehicle fleet.
On Monday, the Michigan Department of Transportation announced $133 million in cash from two Federal Transportation Administration programs, as well as providing matching state funds, to help modernize bus infrastructure, cut down on traffic congestion, and to help residents travel more efficiently and affordably.
Among the 26 entities winning competitive grants is Allegan County Transportation, who will get more than $314,000 from the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program to purchase small propane-powered buses. The state will add over $78,000 to complete the nearly $393,000 funding award.
In addition, the Kent County-based Interurban Transit Partnership, better known as The Rapid, is receiving $9.4 million to buy new compressed natural gas and propane fueled buses, replacing older vehicles that have reached its useful life.
