LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 19, 2025) – While the naming of a Detroit Lions great grabbed the headlines, a leading Lakeshore lawman was also tabbed for a statewide panel by Governor Whitmer on Thursday.
Tim Jungel, who has been Zeeland chief of police since the spring of 2018, will join the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards at the first of the year for a four-year term. He was a choice of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police to serve on the group that promotes public safety through setting standards for selection, employment, licensing, license revocation, and funding in public and private law enforcement and criminal justice. The state Senate has to sign off on this appointment.
In addition, NFL Hall-of-Famer Barry Sanders was named by Whitmer to the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports through next April. The council aims to improve the health of, and increasing physical activity among Michigan residents.
