SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 17, 2025) – Protecting itself from future concerns is behind an item before the Saugatuck City Council on Wednesday afternoon.
City Manager Ryan Cummins has asked the governing panel to consider a resolution allocating over $252,000 to purchase 55,000 gallons per day of wastewater treatment plant capacity from the City of the Village of Douglas. While the municipal need for this isn’t immediate, Cummins is advising council members that a proposed sale of a similar amount of capacity by Douglas to Saugatuck Township could impact Saugatuck city in the future. By making such a purchase now under a right of first refusal clause in an agreement with Douglas, Saugatuck would preserve long-term control of a scare asset at a low price.
The Saugatuck City Council will also talk about a strategic planning meeting for Fiscal 2027 during this special 4 PM business meeting in the second-floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.), held five days ahead of the usual Monday night session due to the upcoming Christmas holiday.
