GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 24, 2025) – A 48-year-old Holland man is apparently free on bond after a Friday arraignment on fraud and tax evasion charges.
The state attorney general’s office was given the case against Shaun Michael Brown after Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives, along with troopers from the state police’s marijuana and tobacco investigation section, looked into allegations that he sold a sports car for $95,000 but failed to provide a valid title, took in more than $1.1 million in unlicensed marijuana sales from 2020 through 2022, and failed to pay any taxes on either the vehicle sale or the cannabis revenue.
Brown faces one count of obtaining money through false pretenses of between $50,000 and $100,000, and six counts of failing to file or filing a false tax return. The false pretense felony has a 15-year prison sentence upon conviction, and each of the tax charges carry a five-year stint behind bars.
As of Monday evening, Brown is not reported as being held in the Ottawa County Jail, and his preliminary hearing before 58th District Judge Judy Mulder in Hudsonville on December 18th.
