HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 19, 2025) – Now that the Holland Community Ice Park is open, the matter of including it in the city’s Social District will be taken up by the City Council on Wednesday night.
An ordinance amendment to include the site off of East 6th Street and College Avenue as an area where patrons of participating taverns can bring their adult beverage into will be considered. Council had spent a good deal of time on the matter two weeks ago, as proponents wanted to have this designation in place when the Ice Park opened up last Friday, but some members felt that it was too much too soon.
Second Ward Council Member Lyn Raymond sees no issue about this.
Council will be asked to either pass or defeat the measure, as well as bypassing the standard 21-day waiting period before it takes effect. That “emergency basis” fast track needs six yes votes from the nine-member panel.
Also on the meeting agenda are housekeeping issues in selecting a Mayor Pro Tem and Chief Governance Officer among the council members, as it’s the first business session for newcomers Amy Klomparens and Tim Marroquin. In addition, Council should decide on removing a “non-compliant” crosswalk on West 40th Street between Ottawa Avenue and Graafschap Road, as city streets officials say upgrading the mid-block crossing would not be cost-effective, based on the amount of pedestrian traffic that use that passage.
The 6 PM Holland City Council meeting is in Chambers at Holland City Hall (270 S. River Ave.). An online link to the meeting agenda and supporting documents is here.
