WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 13, 2025) – A probe into a small plane crash north of Jenison earlier this summer, which seriously injured two unnamed elderly men from Hudsonville, has been concluded.
The National Transportation Safety Board this week disclosed its findings into the July 8th incident, in which a 1968 Cessna 177 craft ended up in a pond near Riverview Airport. Investigators concluded that the 84-year-old man at the controls failed, “to maintain airplane control and clearance from trees during takeoff” that led to the crash. No pre-accident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that could have been factors were reported.
The pilot and his 83-year-old passenger were pulled from the wreckage by three men who were at the scene; those rescuers earned lifesaving awards from the Georgetown Township Fire Department for their efforts.
