SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 10, 2025) – As the outdoor park season has ended, for the most part, in 2025, a Lakeshore community is using this time to go over how it handles its public recreation spaces.
During Monday night’s biweekly Saugatuck City Council business meeting, the governing panel will be asked to approve a couple of measures along these lines. One is to have park rules formally approved by Council posted at Mt. Baldhead Park, Oval Beach, and the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area. Another is to revise those rules to clarify a general prohibition on overnight sleeping or camping in any park, natural area, beach, or associated parking area.
During a workshop session late last month, some council members expressed an interest in possibly extending the park closure time at Oval Beach past the current 10 PM curfew, but Public Works Superintendent Scott Herbert countered that there would be management and staffing issues should that be enacted. Herbert is expected to attend the 6:30 PM Council business meeting to go over this and other related topics.
The session is in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.).
