UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 5, 2025) – There were a couple of surprises, but no shocks, as voters went to the polls along the Lakeshore on Tuesday.
In the city of Holland, Mayor Nathan Bocks won a third two-year term by 73 percent over challenger Brian Everitt (4620-1705), and First Ward Councilman Tim Vreeman defeated challenger Linda Falstad by 86 percent (776-128). However, challenger Abby Klomperens upended incumbent Quincy Byrd for an at-large seat by 61 percent (3730-2365), and challenger Tim Marroquin edged Third Ward incumbent Belinda Sol by eight votes (361-353). The Headlee Override ballot request passed with 56 percent of the vote (3505-2779).
In the city of Zeeland, Rick Van Dorp ran unopposed to replace the retiring Mayor Kevin Klynstra. Newcomers Amy Langeland (759), Rebecca Perkins (707) and Andrew Bult (659) earned seats on the City Council, beating challenger Kylee DeBoer (583) and incumbent Glenn Kass (579). Zeeland Public Schools’ $186 million bond request passed with 52 percent of the vote (3465-3132).
Three incumbents won reelection to the Saugatuck City Council – Holly Anderson (240), Joe Clark (240) and Russ Gardner (235) – defeating challengers John Mayer (229) and Sherry Tedaldi (119).
Three ballot requests in Fillmore Township all passed – the fire and first response protection renewal by 72 percent (401-153), the Herrick District Library levy by 60 percent (329-223), and the water/sewer millage renewal by 10 votes (280-270).
Other contested races along the Lakeshore went this way:

- Hudsonville Third Ward Commissioner (partial term): Jeremy Kamp (I) 190, Thomas Verstraete 158
- Grand Haven City Council (2 seats): Sarah Kallio 2055, Erin Lyon 1993, Dennis Scott 1344 Ferrysburg Mayor: Richard Carlson (I) 521, Jerry Sias 373
- Coopersville City Council (3 seats): Peter Weise (I) 395, Shane Gerard (I) 349, Jillian Poelma (I) 321, Tiffany Langlois 284, Jamie Adams 190
- Wayland City Council (3 seats): Steven Stepek (I) 288, Abe Garcia 253, Megan Mickelson (I) 252, Aubrey Chubb 206
In other ballot proposals, Grand Haven’s public safety millage (1835-1305), along with Hopkins’ road improvement millage (243-185) both passed.
Turnout was at 25 percent of registered voters in Ottawa County, and 22 percent in Allegan County.
