ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 28, 2025) – A 37-year-old Otsego man was sentenced on Monday for allegedly torching a wooden playground in that southeastern Allegan County community last month.
Michael Kilbourn was ordered by 48th Circuit Court Judge Matt Antkoviak to serve between 57 months and 10 years in prison after pleading guilty two weeks ago to third degree arson and three other felony counts. Kilbourn had turned himself in to authorities a week after a September 9th incident in which he and a teenaged nephew set fire to the playground at Northside Park. Responding crews were able to contain the flames to the east side of the wooden structure, and Otsego city officials say that work on rebuilding the playground will begin in earnest next spring.
The unnamed nephew was also charged with third-degree arson for his part in the incident, and his case is going through the Allegan County juvenile justice system.
