GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 30, 2025) – A 20-year-old Jenison man has admitted shooting a 19-year-old man to death earlier this spring near Standale.
Westen Meulenberg pleaded guilty on Monday in 20th Circuit Court to discharging a firearm in a building causing death. He has been held on $50,000 bond since the May 9th incident at a residence in the area of 2nd Avenue, between Lake Michigan Drive and Fennessy Drive. He allegedly fired several rounds through the floor of an upstairs bedroom, with one of the bullets striking Connor Lotterman in the head, causing a mortal wound.
The Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the death was accidental, and sheriff’s detectives believe alcohol was a factor. Meulenberg, who could have been sent to prison for life, will be sentenced sometime next month.

Such Sadness! Prayers for all who’ve been touched by this trajedy.
Westen Meulenberg as well.
