LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 8, 2025) – Changing the rules of a game while it is in progress may be something children may do, but it’s something that shouldn’t be done elsewhere.
That’s the premise behind legislation that cleared the Michigan House last week. Under House Bill 4029, the state Department of Natural Resources will have deadlines of June 1st to adopt any changes to hunting, trapping or fishing orders, along with publishing such changes in annual hunting, fishing and trapping guide handbooks.
It was an idea put forward by a constituent to the bill’s sponsor, Brad Slagh.
The fourth-term Republican Representative from Zeeland Township says that there is a provision in his legislation that would take into account any sudden situation such as a disease outbreak or other similar, unforeseen changes.
Slagh’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act passed in the House without a no vote, and was sent to the Senate’s Government Operations Committee for consideration on Tuesday.
