LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2025) โ With the Capitol building relatively quiet on legislative action right now, should there be concern that state lawmakers have not moved forward on many issues so far this year?
According to MIRS News, the House and Senate have passed just two public acts so far in their 103rd term โ the earned sick time and tipped wage/minimum wage reforms. The average amount of bills that cleared 12 split legislatures, during the first three months of action, since the 1963 state constitution was enacted, is less than five, as compared to the overall mean of 10.
While the legislature has a June 30th deadline to put budget bills on the Governorโs desk for her signature, Speaker Pro Tem Rachelle Smit of Shelbyville/Martin and her fellow House Republicans have sent to the Senate a measure that would prevent a state government shutdown should a spending plan not be in place by the start of the new fiscal year on October 1st.
