Shirley Schippers, age 89, of Holland, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025 at her home. She was surrounded by family singing hymns and praying as she left her loving home on earth to be with her Jesus. She defied all odds and lived almost 17 months under Hospice care. We are so thankful for the loving and compassionate care that she received from her Hospice family. Every “borrowed” moment with her was a gift, and we are so grateful to have had that time.
She was a selfless and amazing wife, mom, friend, grandma, great-grandma and example of Christ’s love, and her legacy lives on in her family. We are rejoicing for her, as she is being told “well done my good and faithful servant.”
Shirley was blessed to be married to her husband, Ken, for 70 years. They enjoyed 30 years of traveling to Florida and biking together daily.
She is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Schippers. She was cherished by her children, Dawn (Dan) Boss, Gail (Jim) Brown, Lynn (Dave) DeKock, Steve (Mari) Schippers, and Kendra (Jeff) Reest. She will always be remembered by her 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and her 25 great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Mary Barrett and Sharon (Carl) DeJonge.
Shirley was a member of Beechwood Reformed Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Carolyn Victory; siblings and in-laws, Lorraine and Eugene Hamilton, Allen and Joyce Victory, Gerald and Margaret Schippers, Betty and Orley Van Dyke, Ray Barrett; and parents-in-law, James and Gertrude Schippers.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 am Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland. A time of fellowship, visitation and reception will follow the service. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Corewell Hospice.
