ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 5, 2025) – US Senator Gary Peters isn’t the only long-time elected public servant to call time this winter.
On January 21st, Zeeland Mayor Kevin Klynstra told his fellow City Council members that he would not seek reelection this coming fall. While he was critical of Ottawa County Republican Party leadership for not endorsing his candidacy two years ago, unhappy that the party had questioned his conservative record and accomplishments, Klynstra stated that he had forgotten all that in saying that it didn’t play into his decision to step down.
Long-time council member Jim Broersma also announced two weeks ago that he would not seek reelection after 24 years on the governing panel, creating at least two openings that will be filled on November 4th. We’ll have more on Klynstra’s decision during our weekly public affairs program “Perspectives,” this Sunday morning around 10:45 AM, on 99 7/1450 WHTC.
