BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 10, 2024) – The effort to preserve farmland in Ottawa County continues to gather momentum.
County officials announced this week that around $30,000 was raised on September 24th during the eighth annual Farms are the Tapas event west of Hudsonville. The money came from ticket sales, in which 172 people attended at the Red Shed, sponsor support, and an auction, and will go towards keeping crops and livestock vibrant in a growing community, according to county Economic Development Coordinator Becky Huttenga.
Since 2016, this voluntary program has protected 697 acres in six townships across the County and will soon preserve 265 more acres. In the Chef’s Competition, Frank’s of Zeeland captured the top prize with a braised pulled pork slider topped with homemade coleslaw and two unique homemade barbecue sauces, along with a mushroom pepper jack cheese soup.
