ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 7, 2024) – The Zeeland City Council holds its biweekly business meeting on Monday evening.
Among the items on the agenda before the governing panel are a couple of issues involving connectivity. One is an allocation of between $10,000 and $11,300 to connect Zeeland police, fire and BPW to Ottawa County’s FOG-Net system. It would benefit those entities in a direct connection to Ottawa County Central Dispatch, as well as neighboring communities in cases of emergencies. Funding for this project, according to Zeeland IT Director Tim Maloney, would come from a $17,000 allocation in the city’s 2023-24 capital projection.
In addition, Maloney is also asking council to approve installing a direct underground fiber between the Howard Miller Library to the city’s Public Safety through conduits that were already part of the Main Avenue rebuilding project, with the possibility of extending it to the Zeeland BPW complex. The $26,000-plus price tag for the project is within the $73,000 capital allocation in the Fiscal 2025 budget.
The Zeeland City Council has a 5:45 PM study session ahead of its 7 PM business meeting, both in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
