HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 4, 2024) – A fun way to bring home the message of fire safety in Holland and along the Lakeshore is on Friday night.
The 42nd annual Fire Prevention Parade and Open House kicks off at 7 PM with a promenade of apparatus from various entities, heading west along 8th Street downtown to the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place, where a 90-minute fire safety event will be held. All of the participating vehicles will be on display, along with fire and safety demonstrations, an auto extrication demonstration, a tour of a fire safety house, safety information tables, a chance of youngsters to try on fire coats and helmets, along with operating a fire hose, and many more free activities.
Chris Tinney is Captain of Fire Operations for the Holland Department of Public Safety.
The parade kicks off Fire Prevention Week locally, and the national theme for this year is “Smoke Alarms – Make Them Work for You.” This awareness campaign is timed to commemorate the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of October 8-9, 1871, with a similar conflagration occurring in Holland.
