LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 26, 2024) – Unemployment along the Lakeshore slipped a little last month.
In numbers disclosed on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, the not seasonally-adjusted jobless rate for Ottawa County in August stood at 3.8 percent, fifth lowest among the state’s 83 counties. Neighboring Allegan County stood a tenth of a percentage point higher.
This compares with July levels of 4.1 percent in Ottawa County and 4.3 percent in Allegan County. A year ago, those figures were at 3.5 percent and 3.6 percent, respectively.
State officials say that the Lakeshore’s numbers are reflective of employment trends across Michigan in August that were “typical” for this time of year in one sense, and similar in being higher than in 2023.
