On Saturday evening, September 21, 2024, as summer transitioned into fall, our dear sister Betty Haveman was translated from the church militant to the church triumphant and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who she loved and served.
She will be deeply missed by her family as well as by many friends, relatives, and acquaintances that she made by living a full and active life.
She was single and independent but lived with her parents and was a very good caretaker of them until they both passed away. Her mother Hattie died in 2001, and her father Arnold died in 2007. She was a special aunt to all of her nieces and nephews as well as to many great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her dearly and regarded her as a grandmother.
Betty is survived by her three brothers: Chet (Sharon) Haveman, Will (Sue) Haveman, Vern (Mary) Haveman; her sister Ruth (Dale) Kraker, as well as 14 nieces and nephews and their families: Janna Huisken (Joel), Mike Haveman (Heidi), Jennifer Moelker (Mike) Nicole Ball (Mike), Derek Haveman (Nicole), Geoffrey Haveman, Elizabeth Machiele (Tim), Amy Weaver (Grant), Carrie Karsmeyer (Kirk), Catherine Van Dyke (Adam), Arend Haveman, Ryan Kraker (Valerie), Lauren Bodbyl (Nate), Lisa Kraker.
Betty was a lifelong member of Hudsonville Protestant Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school for the younger children for many years, and where she has many great friends. Betty loved music and was a faithful church organist at her church for over 60 years.
Betty attended Beaverdam Christian School and Hope Protestant Reformed Christian School for elementary and junior high years while keeping perfect attendance for those ten years. She was a 1963 graduate of Unity Christian High School in Hudsonville. Betty worked for many years as Miedema Produce in Hudsonville and only recently retired.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, September 27, 2024, at Hudsonville Protestant Reformed Church, 5101 Beechtree Ave., Hudsonville MI 49426. Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Thursday also at Hudsonville PR Church, and 12:30-1:15 PM Friday, prior to the funeral at church. Private interment will be in Blendon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian School of one’s choice.
Arrangements by the Yntema Funeral home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464.
