HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 20, 2024) – A 39-year-old Holland man is free on bond following a Wednesday arrest on charges stemming from using a smart phone to capture an “upskirt” image of a woman at a North Side retailer.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Investigative Captain Jake Sparks, the incident occurred at a store located off of Felch Street near US-31 during the afternoon of August 19th. The 27-year-old Holland woman had called 911, saying that she believed that a man at the store attempted to take a picture or shoot a video up her skirt.
Detectives determined that the suspect, Mark Edwin Dykema, had passed the victim, bent down, and did what the victim claimed in her call to authorities. The woman was initially unaware of his actions until he had passed her, but became suspicious due to the close proximity that he was to her. Further investigation revealed that this was not just an isolated incident, but that he had allegedly been doing this in and around the region, and department detectives are working with colleagues from neighboring agencies on this matter.
After a Wednesday arraignment before 58th District Court Judge Juanita Bocanegra on charges of Capturing the Image of an Unclothed Person and Use of a Computer to Commit a Crime, Dykema posted a $10,000 cash bond.
The case remains open, and anyone who may have more information on this incident, or who may believe that they had been victimized in a similar fashion, is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
