Kenneth Opple, age 81, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024.
Ken was known for his jokes and his generosity. He was a standout football athlete at Grandville High School and then National Junior College All-American at GRCC. A graduate of Western Michigan University, he had a long career as a businessman who worked many years running the operations of Gordon Manufacturing before owning his own firm, Iroquois Hoods, in Muskegon. He gave freely of his time and money, whether it was to allow a charity for combat veterans or the intellectually disabled to use his commercial buildings for free, or to help a neighbor fix something. He loved to watch the boats pass by sitting on his front porch on Lake Macatawa, and watching football, especially Notre Dame.
He is survived by his son, Kevin and Andrea Opple; step-son, Roger Shelley; grandchildren, Catherine Opple, Ryan Shelley, Nick Shelley, Kyle Shelley, and Ashlee Gibson; sister, Nancy and Martin Heyboer; brother, Tom and Mary Opple; sister, Lois and Gary Tasior; nephew, Greg Opple; niece, Sarah Opple; nephews, Chip, Jason, and Sean Heyboer; sister-in-law, Patricia and Harold Morris; brother-in-law, David and Linda Demory, and brother-in-law, Mike Demory.
Visitation with the family is 4:00-6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland, MI 49423.
