Eleanor Slagh, 99, of Zeeland, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Resthaven.
Eleanor was born in Grand Rapids on March 21, 1925, to Claude and Henrietta Landstra.
She graduated from South High School and later married Jay Slagh in 1946. They raised their family in Zeeland and were members of First Reformed Church. Eleanor volunteered in the Ladies Aid Society at First Reformed Church, in the Zeeland Hospital Guild, the American Red Cross. She and Jay enjoyed gardening, golfing, and wintering in Florida. Eleanor also knitted and enjoyed crafting. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Jay Slagh, her granddaughter Kathy Merrill, and sons-in-law, Ron Albers, and Marion Hoeve.
She is survived by her children: Judy Hoeve, Mary Lou and Merle Bremer, Nancy Corvers, Sally and John Janssen, Larry and Jackie Slagh; 24 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother Fred Landstra, in-laws: Marlene Landstra, Rainie Slagh, Mel Ten Broeke, Joyce and Larry Houtman, Vern and Mary Slagh, and many nieces and nephews.
The Slagh Family is very grateful for the kindness and excellent care that Resthaven’s Staff provided for Eleanor.
A memorial service to honor the faith and life of Eleanor Slagh will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St. Zeeland. Visitation will be 6:00-6:45 pm, Thursday, prior to the service. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorials to Resthaven.
