LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 15, 2024) – While the search for a new administrator for Ottawa County has garnered more attention, a smaller Lakeshore governmental entity has begun to look for a new operational leader.
Applications are now being accepted by Laketown Township for those wishing to become that Allegan County community’s manager. Al Meshkin announced in July his intention to retire on January 3rd after 35 years at the post.
Former Holland City Manager Ryan Cotton, who is now part of a retained entity helping the township board in its search for a new chief operation officer, set down a timeline and qualifications for those wishing to replace Meshkin. From this past Monday, September 10th, through October 9th, those who have a bachelor’s degree, five years of local governmental administrative or supervisory experience with a background in budgeting, personnel, purchasing and human resources can submit their names. The full job posting is here.
The township board will start going over resumes on September 27th; hold a closed-door meeting on October 23rd to decide which candidates to publicly interview a week later; stage second-round open chats on November 6th, and look to make an offer for the desired hopeful on November 13th.
Cotton told the township board in a special meeting on September 4th that he expects as many as two dozen viable applicants, with six to eight qualified candidates.
Earlier this month, Jon Anderson submitted his notice of resignation as Ottawa County Interim Administrator, effective on October 4th, due to a job commitment conflict. Anderson was tabbed to handle the operational duties when John Gibbs was sacked by the county board this spring.
