GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 14, 2024) – Nearly 16 years after Ottawa County began moving much of its governmental operations from Grand Haven to Olive Township, some of that shift is headed back in the opposite direction.
On Friday, county officials announced that the Probate Court will be put back into the county courthouse in the county seat. The court will close starting on Thursday, September 19th, and reopen in its new location the following Tuesday.
The state’s court administrator’s office had initially approved the shift of the probate court in 2009, as state law mandates this court to be in the county seat. The move back came about with the building and opening of the new Family Justice Center at the Fillmore Street complex earlier this year, which enabled the 20th Circuit Court to shift some of its operations there, and clearing out space for the return of the probate court.
During the transition period, documents can still be filed electronically, but no response will be done until after the move is complete. Probate Judge Mark Feyen will began holding court sessions at the county courthouse on September 23rd.
