LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 10, 2024) – A Grand Haven man who makes the commute to operate a Kent County school district has been named to a state panel.
Governor Whitmer’s office announced on Tuesday that Kevin Polston will fill a vacancy on the State Teacher Tenure Commission for a four-year term. He has been the superintendent of Kentwood Public Schools since 2021, but continues to live in the tri-cities, as he had been a teach, coach, principal and curriculum leader with Grand Haven Area Public Schools for 15 years before moving into educational leadership, first with Godfrey Lee schools, and now with the Falcons.
According to the governor’s office, the commission acts as a board of review for all cases appealed from the decision of a controlling board involving teacher tenure matters. Polston’s appointment to replace Owosso School Superintendent Andrea Tuttle, who was on the panel for two years before resigning, is not subject to state Senate approval.
