OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 7, 2024) – Jon Anderson was Ottawa County’s Interim Administrator, and any thoughts that he could be considered for the role full-time have been put to rest.
The co-owner of Holland’s Bullet Hole Firearms and Training retailer on Friday submitted his notice of an intent to resign from the chief operating officer’s position with the county, effective on October 4th. In his letter to Board Chairman Joe Moss (R-Hudsonville), he said that he had accepted “an offer of employment from my previous employer.” Anderson did not mention the employer by name, but his Linkedin account mentioned a five-and-a-half-year stint with Grand Rapids-based Reliable 6 Solutions as a Consultant/Investigator, from April of 2016, after he had retired from the Riverside County (CA) Sheriff’s Department, through February of 2022.
Anderson, who was a probation specialist with Ottawa County for a brief time two years ago, had initially put his name in for the Republican Party nomination in the August 6th Primary Election, following the announced retirement of Steve Kempker in January. He was then approached to be considered for the interim County Administrator position when John Gibbs was dismissed, and was selected in April for that post. Anderson lost to Undersheriff Eric DeBoer in the primary election.
While the County board’s next meeting on Tuesday (9 AM, County Administration Building, 12220 Fillmore St.) is slated to be spotlighted by a public hearing and a final vote on the Fiscal Year 2025 county government budget, the matter of the process in naming another interim administrator may be addressed. The board is already looking to name a new full-time operational leader, although that decision may not come until after the November 5th General Election, when the makeup of the governing panel for the next four years will be determined.
