GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 16, 2024) – Two men are in the Ottawa County Jail after an arraignment on charges stemming from a collision between Allendale and Standale that took the life of a 27-year-old Grand Rapids man.
Bond was set on Friday at $250,000 each by Hudsonville District Court Judge Judy Mulder on 23-year-old Ethan Oosterhouse of Middleville and 42-year-old Denis Perez of Grand Rapids. Both men were charged counts on second-degree murder, manslaughter, and reckless driving causing death.
The June 25th incident around 4:15 PM on Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) near Trillium Lane in Tallmadge Township occurred when a sports car and a Jeep were heading eastbound when they bumped up against each other in what deputies believe was a case of road rage. The force of the contact caused the sports car to veer left across the center line and slam head on into a westbound sedan, causing that vehicle to burst into flames.
The driver of the sedan, Sha-Tera Coleman, died at the scene, while Perez was flown to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, and Oosterhouse suffered minor injuries. The surviving motorists were arrested on Thursday after criminal felony warrants were issued by Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney Lee Fisher.
A preliminary hearing date was not immediately disclosed. The case remains open, and anyone with any further information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
