TALLMADGE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 26, 2024) – A 27-year-old Grand Rapids resident died after a three-vehicle pileup between Standale and Allendale on Tuesday afternoon.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Nicholas Knott didn’t give any details as to the names or gender of any of those involved in the incident shortly after 4 PM on Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) near Trillium Lane. It appeared that an eastbound sports car, driven by a 42-year-old from Grand Rapids, struck a Jeep, driven by a 23-year-old from Middleville. The sports car then veered across the center turn lane of the five-line highway at that juncture and slammed head-on into a westbound sedan. One of the vehicles then burst into flames, trapping the motorist inside.
The driver of the westbound sedan died at the scene, while the sports car motorist was flown to Corewell-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious injuries, and the other driver involved suffered bumps and bruises. Lake Michigan Drive was closed for several hours as a result of the collision, which remains under investigation.
Anyone with any information on this incident is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer.
