GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 14, 2024) – One never wishes for emergencies to occur, but for those who are responsible for protecting lives, there’s never enough preparation.
A mass casualty incident exercise is slated for Wednesday evening in Grand Haven. The Harvest Church site will be blocked off, beginning at 3 PM, in advance of the four-hour situation reenactment that starts at 6 PM. Various law enforcement officers and first responder staffers will be on hand for the simulation that is designed to train and prepare for responses if and when a mass casualty incident occurs.
“The purpose of the exercise is to develop the best capability in Ottawa County possible for responding to large-scale mass casualty incidents. We are already confident in our first responders and medical professionals in Ottawa; they all know their jobs well, but this exercise tests coordination and efficiency across the disciplines as they work together. Our best measurement of success will be a comprehensive after-action report that identifies where we need to grow, and we will then make the necessary changes.” – Ottawa County Emergency Management Director Lou Hunt
The public is asked to stay away from the Harvest Church site during the exercise.
