Laverne Kragt age 83, of Holland, passed away Wednesday, August 7 at his home surrounded by his family.
Vern Worked for Lake Welding Supply, starting as a delivery driver and retiring as a manager following 50 years of employment. He was also active as a Cadet leader and serving on council for Calvary Christian Reformed Church. He would spend as much time as possible enjoying the outdoors. Vern loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially hunting, fishing, and camping at Woodville and Ludington State Park. You could often find him sitting on his porch and watching the wildlife in his yard. From his sun room, he could see the deer, foxes, birds, and squirrels that would visit their pond.
He was the son of Franklin and Aletta Kragt and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Delwin Kragt and Sandy Van Wieren.
Vern is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol; children: Curt (Tammy) Kragt, Carrie (Leon) Nienhuis, Craig (Julie) Kragt, Corey (Aimee) Kragt; grandchildren: Mason Kragt, Josie Kragt, Blake (Kassie) Nienhuis, Brooke (Ryan) Ross, Bryce Nienhuis, Mallory (Kevin) Vander Kooi, Jordan Waanders, Michelle Kragt; and 11 great grandchildren; brother, Harvey (Donna) Kragt; sister, Karen (Michael) Meyer; in-laws, Carl Van Wieren, Beth Kragt, Dorothy Bareman; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Laverne will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland with Rev. Doug Baker officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, August 9, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Holland.
