ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 31, 2024) – It’s “mission accomplished” in Allegan.
A two-month-long crowdfunding effort to raise $50,000 for renovating Mahan Park in the county seat ends on Wednesday evening, with that goal already achieved. The total pledged through the patronicity website stands at over $64,000 as of dawn.
The city was looking for that 50 grand in order to match a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Public Spaces Community Places program. The money will go towards creating a universally accessible pedestrian plaza, a new portion of riverfront boardwalk, new lighting and landscaping, and new park furniture. This project is part of a $400,000 overall improvement plan for the park, with $260,000 already secured prior to the start of this crowdfunding effort.
With most of the money in hand, Allegan city officials are expected to begin work this fall on improvements for Mahan Park, which was originally constructed in the 1980’s.
