SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 30, 2024) – A teenager is in custody following a police chase through the Tri-Cities area on Tuesday evening.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies, Grand Haven Public Safety officers, and Michigan State Police troopers were alerted by Central Dispatch around 6 PM that a person was seen in the city of Grand Haven driving a vehicle with front end damage, telling people that the vehicle was stolen. The vehicle matched the description of one that was involved in a hit-and-run collision an hour earlier in the vicinity of Robbins Road and Lakeshore Drive south of the county seat.
After some patrolling, a sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle in the area of Beacon Boulevard (US-31) and Jackson Street heading northbound, but the driver sped off across the drawbridge and into Spring Lake, heading east on Savidge Street (M-104). Other deputies boxed in the suspect’s vehicle near Lake Avenue and successfully stopped the fleeing youth, who was apprehended without further incident. The unnamed suspect was taken to the Ottawa County Youth Home and is awaiting arraignment on several felony charges.
No injuries were reported as the incident remains under investigation.
