Philip D. Matz, 87, of Holland, MI passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus, surrounded by family on July 22, 2024. Phil was born on March 19, 1937 to the late Frederick and Mabel (Webb) Matz. Loving husband to Janet (Leonhardt) for 63 years. Loving father of Lisa Ulrich (Keith), Vicki McCall (Rob) and Sheri Boos (Jon). Proud Grandpa of Philip, Kirsten, Jonathan, Jack, Lauren and Megan. He was preceded in death by his brother Dennis and sister Donna. He grew up in Dearborn, MI and was a graduate of Dearborn High School and then Wayne State. Upon graduation, Phil proudly served his country as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC as a paratrooper and medic. He then answered a want ad in 1959 for a mail room clerk at Kenyon & Eckhardt Advertising and his illustrious career began. He led first the Lincoln Mercury business and ultimately Chrysler until his retirement in 1999 from BBDO/PentaCom. He was inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame in 2017 for his renowned career and incredible leadership.
Phil cherished his family and found so much joy vacationing together, gathering for holidays, and created lasting memories for all of us first in Caseville, and finally on Drummond Island, putting his whole heart into making something magical.
Phil was a strong man of faith, and he passed as he lived, focused on his faith and family, with dignity, humor and an unwavering strength. His enduring legacy of love and cherished memories will forever live on.
