TORONTO (Reuters) – Thousands of Bank of Nova Scotia clients in Canada were experiencing technical issues on Friday, with many complaining about missing paychecks and other problems.
“We are currently experiencing a technical issue where some of our clients’ inbound payments, including direct deposits and cheque deposits, are not being applied to their accounts,” said Scotiabank, adding that it was actively working to resolve the issue.
Any fees incurred as a result of the technical issue will be refunded, it said.
The issue began early on Friday, according to Downdetector.com, which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources including users.
More than 3,000 customers had reported problems by 1030 EDT (1430 GMT), according to Downdetector.com.
Several clients reached out to Scotiabank’s helpline on social media platform X when they did not receive their paychecks, some frustrated as their rent was due and others requesting a timeline for resolving the issue.
The lender, Canada’s third biggest by assets, caters to more than 11 million retail, small business and commercial banking clients in the country.
