DEARBORN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 23, 2024) – It has been a week since a tornado nearly struck a 252,000-barrel-per-day refinery near Joliet, but the effects are still being felt by motorists fueling their internal-combustion engines in Michigan.
Triple-A’s daily canvassing of gas stations statewide showed an average cost of three-68 a gallon as of Tuesday morning. That’s 18 cents higher than the national average, and is an increase of 12 cents over a week, 17 cents in a month, and 19 pennies more than at this time last year.
The storm and twister knocked out power to the Exxon Mobile complex southwest of Chicago, affecting fuel costs in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, according to Adrienne Woodland with the Auto Club in Dearborn.
Along the Lakeshore, Ottawa County’s average gas price of three-75 is just three cents below that of neighboring Allegan County.
