HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 19, 2024) – As the entertainment world mourns the Thursday death of comedian and actor Bob Newhart at the age of 94 after a series of short illnesses, those along the Lakeshore remember his appearance as a featured attraction during the 2015 Tulip Time Festival.
The star of “The Bob Newhart Show” in the 1970s and “Newhart” in the 1980s gained an audience with his deadpan and sometimes stammering delivery. His live stand-up albums were top-sellers, and became a fixture on “The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson,” with guest-appearances in dozens of TV shows.
Mr. Newhart stepped in to appear at Central Weslayan Auditorium to replace Bill Engvall when a scheduling snafu occurred.
He won his first Emmy in 2013 for a guest spot on “The Big Bang Theory.”
Mr. Newhart chatted with Dan Spadafora in a 2015 interview that initially aired on “WHTC Morning News” and on “Perspectives.”
