LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 17, 2024) – Drivers throughout Michigan are being reminded to drive with caution, as crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists are on the rise.
That’s according to a new report released last week by the Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center, which showed crash related data for 2023. As compared to the year prior, there was a ten-percent increase in crashes involving bikes and an eleven-percent increase in pedestrian involved crashes. This despite overall collisions falling by two percent to nearly 288 thousand, and fatal crashes down three percent, claiming 28 fewer lives to just under 11 hundred.
Breaking down the numbers further: There were 78-hundred-25 collisions noted in Ottawa County last year, 17 of which were fatal, and nearly 13 hundred of which caused injury; Allegan County saw 38-hundred-94 collisions, 12 of which were fatal, and 506 caused injury.
