David Lee Zwiers, age 74, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at Tidewell Hospice House after a battle with leukemia. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 52 years, Diane Zwiers; his loving children and their spouses, Sara and Zeke Hampton, and Scott and Heather Zwiers; his treasured grandchildren, Addison and Connor Zwiers; and his big brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jane Zwiers.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Arlyne Zwiers; his sister, Linda Paterson; his niece, Lisa Paterson; his in-laws, Laverne and Lavina Zoerhoff; and his nephew, John Zoerhoff.
Dave grew up in Holland, Michigan, and served honorably in the Navy’s Construction Battalion, known as the Seabees, during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he married his best friend and graduated from Michigan State University. He was a supportive and adventurous dad, an avid fisherman and sports fan, and had a successful career selling medical books with Elsevier. He was a fun-loving grandfather who played in rain puddles and constantly made Addi and Connor laugh. Throughout their lives, Dave and his wife, Diane, had countless adventures traveling all over the world. They enjoyed cruises, bungee jumping, riding ATVs, and even swimming with sharks and pigs.
Dave lived life to the fullest. He laughed often and loved deeply. He embraced new experiences, worked hard, and played hard. Dave had a remarkable ability to connect with people of all ages; everyone who met him, from little kids to elderly individuals, adored him. He lived with a quiet, unwavering faith in God and was dedicated to loving, spending time with, and supporting his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held at 11:00am Thursday, July 25, at the Holland VFW Post 2144, 175 W 8th St, Holland, MI. A time of food and fellowship for friends and family will follow, also at the VFW. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
