HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 13, 2024) – A dream of Frank Kraai will become reality without him to see it.
The 88-year-old retired teacher and philanthropist died on Thursday of undisclosed causes. Known most recently for his $1.1 million donation to seed the construction of a permanent, artificial ice skating rink complex at Window on the Waterfront Park, near when he lived at Freedom Village during his last years, Mr. Kraai spent nearly four decades in education with West Ottawa Public Schools and Hope College. Ground was broken on the “ice ribbon” this past April, with a target opening by the end of 2025.
Funeral arrangements are through the Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, and memorial contributions may be made in his name to Mobility Worldwide. A public celebration of life for Mr. Kraai is slated for Thursday, August 1, from 4-7 PM, at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place (150 W. 8th St.).
